Thank for your comment Andarno. I've ran a couple of guilds myself and found it hard to find the balance between the social players and the raiding ones. If you're going for raiding goals, then you need a certain quality of players and a certain balance of classes (though in WotLK this is a bit easier achieved than in TBC), this will negatively influence the socialness.

But I'm glad you've found a way to do it! It's really rewarding work (yes, running a guild is actual WORK) and I hope you'll be enjoying the game with your friends for a long time! Enjoy.

There is a good balance to be found between a Hardcore raiding guild and a friendly social & helpful guild. The guild I am in is called "Inner Circle" of Kilrogg Realm, although I am the founding member and GM I could not run the guild alone and have a selection of ppl to assist me, including those that understand Classes to advise others, those that are good at resolving disputes, people with GOOD experiance at raiding and raid leading, and finally a few RL friends. Our guilds main goal is to always be at end game content, enjoying the privilages this brings whilst helping others achieve them. Guild chat is busy and friendly and all members can log onto a voice server to enjoy a more personal experience and social aspect. Don't be fooled into thinking it is a friendly guild OR a hardcore guild. There are guilds out there that aim to be both and I like to think we achieve that.

Cheers and Happy gaming.

Nah, he's alright, he was suddenly a bit dizzy so he totally freaked out (he's a bit of a weird cat). Both of our kittens jump onto the chair themselves and want it to spin. After a first go, they jump on it again for another spin. We don't force them!

However, the sock-game we play with them, now THAT'S cruel! Haha. Just kidding!

Judith,
the point of my post was not the link that i posted
that was just an afterthought!

my central point is that we are all affected by the looks of others
the old saying goes that
"beauty is in the eye of the beholder"
does not pay enough creedence to research that shows that there is a remarkable level of consensus as to what we find attrative from an appearance perspective
getting the most beautiful guy or girl however is not a very reliable recipe for happiness !
but most of us still have to fight the pleasant feelings we get when we look at an attractive person and the unpleasant feelings we get when we look at an unattractive person!

its kind of saying that ...our instincts lead us in the wrong (and illogical ) direction if happiness is what we are seeking

Pete
(PS i have had some experience in this ...being a father to 3 children and a grandfather to 2 and married to the same lady for more than 30 years)

"Dr.Insight": I'm full of contradictions, but I also respond very fiercly to things I find ignorant or mean. I don't let them slide and I don't tolerate them. I wasn't upset cause the guy disagreed with me, I was upset because he was being insensitive. I hope you can see the difference.

Pete: Although your site is a bit pornographic, it's nice to see that different sizes are accepted and even preferred!

Karl: you're sweet! Thanks for the lovely inspring comment.

Amanda: I think I emphasized many times that I totally understand women who do vaginal surgery because they are in pain! I hope you now feel better!

R K Donathan: I agree with you! I love it when people treat me the same way as I treat them, it's very liberating. If a woman is so incredibly ignorant that she rejects a guy base don his penis size, they shouldn't be upset if they are judged on their looks themselves. Nonetheless these women and men will deal with loads of issues of insecurity and those frustrations will probably affect their lives, which is just sad.

Hey! you talk about accepting people and giving them a place in society disregarding their differences."Which just made me wanna kick his ass" Judith commenting on the scene with the painter from the documentary The Perfect Vagina.
WOW really judith? Is this what you call treating everyone alike? You wanna kick his arse cause he doesn't agree with you?

You know, I don't think he was influenced by The Little Mermaid. I think yes, he was influenced by the Hans Christian Anderson tale, but not necessarily the Disney movie. I say that because of the elements that you say are similar in Ponyo they are either a) influenced by the original fairy tale or b) typical Miyazaki storytelling. For example, he went for the rebellious heroine and happy-ending boy-girl story because that's his style; in most of the works I've seen by him, he clearly favors the ending that allows for the two main characters to end up together. Wizards and powerful magic aren't exactly uncommon in his stuff, either.
As for the similarity in underwater scenery, etc... I don't know what to tell you. I guess, yeah, both were inspired by the same source, so they're bound to have visual similarities, but I personally was not reminded of The Little Mermaid in that way; to me Ponyo was more like... watching a living watercolor painting. The disney movie never seemed that colorful and... alive to me. But I suppose that's an opinion.
And who knows, maybe Miyazaki DID take influence from Disney. (Personally I'd like to think that Ponyo's hair color came from the fact that she was originally considered a goldfish).

Oops. I typed this in Word to let it spell check me and then pasted here...didn't realize that for some reason it was changing Miyazaki to Miyazake. So for all those about to attack me for that, YES, I do know how to spell his name!

Wow. It's funny to see all these anime disciples zealously defending Miyazake, one of their principal deities. Get a grip, folks. The two stories ARE very similar. In fact, I only happened upon this page because I googled to find out whether Ponyo was a retelling of TLM, since nowhere was anybody acknowledging its likeness to it. I'll bet if TLM came out AFTER Ponyo, you'd see all these same people riotously accusing Disney of ripping off Miyazake. I am also a great admirer of Miyazake (Porco Rosso is my favorite) and find his work very original. However, that doesn't mean he can't draw inspiration elsewhere, whether consciously or unconsciously.

Yeah, that's where the similarities mostly come from, nw2, and maybe you're right about Fujimoto! Never thought of that.

And Fusion, the similarities don't make Ponyo any less original or awesome!!

Like The Little Mermaid, Ponyo is based on Hans Christian Andersen's story (though even more loosely than the Disney movie is). That's the source of the similarities--though neither one goes for Andersen's sad ending.

I just saw the trailer and read the outline of the story and thought the same thing about the similarities with The Little Mermaid. I'm glad I wasn't the only one who noticed. Whether or not Miyazaki was inspired of the Disney retelling, the original Hans Christian Andersen tale, both, or neither, it still is an interesting story told in truest Miyazaki fashion. I can't wait to see it.
