Xena: Warrior Princess

29 September, 2008 at 16:10 (movies & TV) (, , , , , , , , , , , , )

Xena is one of the most awesome shows ever created for TV. Lucy Lawless portrays Xena perfectly and with an incredible amount of dedication, not to mention the performance of her second half Renee O’Connor who plays Gabrielle. The six seasons form a spiritual journey where Xena tries to make amends for her vicious past. Over the recent years I’ve become a total Xena fan and I’ll try to give the show the attention it deserves in this article.

I Kissed a Girl by Katy Perry

26 September, 2008 at 16:08 (other interesting stuff) (, , , , , , , )

OK, maybe she’s totally fake and only doing it for the money, I still love this song! Can’t help it, it just triggers something in me and it fascinates me. But that’s not why I made it song of the week. I love the fact that there’s someone singing about this casual bisexuality, even if it’s not intended that way.

I believe that people fall in love with a person, not with a gender and I hope that in the future people will be more tolerant of gay or bisexual people and songs like this, however shallow, contribute to that tolerance. And it’s not like T.A.T.U’s All The Things She Said where there are two girls kissing and it’s all about the teenage-lesbian-girl-thing, but this song is about accidental bisexuality, sexual experiments and therefore sexual freedom. I see that as empowering, positive and a wonderful step towards tolerance of people’s sexual nature. So go Katy!

Alive – The Totoro Forest Project

24 September, 2008 at 16:19 (other interesting stuff) (, , , , , )

The Totoro Forst Project Auction Benefit Event took place on September 6 and I’m very happy it was a great success, tickets were sold out in 48 hours! After my previous post I’ve been closely following this initiative on their blog and I’d like to put some of the works of art from this cool initiative in the spotlight starting with Alive by Enrique Fernández.

In this work Fernández tries to capture the aliveness of the forest, thereby touching upon the topic of the difficult relationship between us humans and nature: do we really care about nature? Of course we do! Well, I do at least, but I know many people who don’t care at all and that’s very sad. That’s why these initiatives are so wonderful, especially coming from a company like studio Ghibli that has a worldwide platform. Fernández further more wants to put a smile on the face of the viewer and he certainly succeeds. He has really drawn inspiration from Miyazaki’s My Neighbour Totoro and the creatures are absolutely adorable!

The Perfect Vagina

22 September, 2008 at 12:40 (other interesting stuff, spirituality) (, , )

I was absolutely horrified, shocked and utterly confused while watching the documentary The Perfect Vagina presented by Lisa Rogers. The film follows Lisa around while she investigates the phenomena of women who have plastic surgery on their vaginas. I was left feeling sad and wondering what is wrong with the world today.

Hey There Delilah by the Plain White T’s

19 September, 2008 at 16:00 (other interesting stuff) (, , , , )

I absolutely adore this Grammy nominated song by the Plane White T’s and can’t get anough of it. I’m a punkgirl, who loves all music from opera to metal, but these days I’m also listening to a lot of pop. I never listen to the radio and always have winamp playing when my pc is on.

I fell in love with this song during Christmas 2008 when Daan & I listened to it many times together. It directly related to our situation. We were separated by an ocean for 6 months. That’s why this song has special meaning to me.

I love the guitar in the song and the vocals by Tom Higgenson are extremely sensitive and very delicate, in short, it’s a wonderful song. Enjoy it and cuddle up with your loved one!

Review World of Warcraft

17 September, 2008 at 22:01 (games) (, , , , )

Verdict: 8

World of Warcraft is one of the most fun, most horrible, most frustrating, most boring, most addictive and most interesting games I’ve played so far. It is very beautiful, as I’ve always said: it’s shiny! And I really love shiny environments. The gameworld is very large, constantly developing and varied. Yet the game becomes boring, repetitive and even frustrating at some points and it’s the social environment that keeps you into it. And it is a definite recommendation for first time gamers!

Lots of ideas, but no time to write!

2 September, 2008 at 12:21 (other interesting stuff) (, , , , , , , , , , , )

I’m currently extremely busy. I’m moving to this wonderful new apartment with Daan & Piko. I’ve found a great job that I’m applying for and I’m also writing my dissertation & graduating. I’m really enjoying my busy life!

My master course, Digital Games: Theory and Design, is organising a post graduate conference. It’s a really interesting line-up: Peter Molyneux, Barry Atkins, Richard Bartle and not to mention my own teachers: Tanya Krzywinska, Douglas Brown & Justin Parsler. I can’t make it unfortunately, but I hope it’ll be a huge success! Check out their site HERE.

Everyday I have an urge to write a post about something I’ve seen or did, but I simply can’t find the time to do it. So after this busy period is over, I’ll write about all the things that I haven’t gotten around to doing: World of Warcraft, The Perfect Vagina, Xena, As The World Turns, Yoga, Disney Classics.
